How to Switch Between Users in Windows 10 / 8.1

If you have more than one user account on a Windows 10 computer, then Switch User or Fast User Switching is an easy way to switch between one user account to another, without signing out and closing all the apps and files. This really makes it easier to share your PC with other users.

In this tutorial, you will learn to switch between users without signing out from any account. It is a good idea to save your files before you switch to other user, because Windows will not automatically save the files of current user, and if another user shut down the computer, any unsaved files will be lost. So, let’s get started and make sure your Windows 10 system has at least two users account to switch between.

The first method to switch between users is to, click the Start button, and then click the current user name from the top left corner of the Start button. Below you will see other user accounts that are currently available on your computer. Click the User name to which you want to switch to, or give the control of your PC.

That’s it! You will immediately get back to the login screen, while windows asking you to enter login credentials, if any.

If you switch back to the previous user, then you may find that all the applications and files are intact.

The second alternative to switch user is, if there is no application or document open, or everything is minimized to the taskbar, and then you press Alt + F4 key, then it will bring you the shut down window, from where you can choose the Switch User command.

You can also switch between users, by pressing Control + Alter + Delete key, and then click Switch User.

Another option for switching between users is to open Task Manager in More Details View, and then click Users tab. Right-click on the user name to which you want to switch to, and then click Switch User Account.
